This is a rather odd post for me. I’m going to review something other than a traditional web-building tool. Here it is, my phpArcadeScript review. It actually is a web-building tool, just one created for a very specific niche.

OK, we’ve all been working too hard! Just for kicks, I decided to build a little arcade site. This is a site that offers free arcade games of all types, including free casino games, card games, action games, plus hundreds of free videos, including a bunch of free funny videos. I just bought a huge game pack, so soon I will have literally thousands of free games and videos on there. This is site I built for fun, to feed my addiction to new tools and toys. But, this type of site can have hundreds or thousands of pages that get decent Google page rank, without much work at all. Many of these arcades have pr4 or pr5. We’ll see how the experiment works! Meanwhile, take the rest of the day off and go play a game!

If you like this site, and want to build one yourself, it was done with a program called phpArcadeScript. (What the heck, I may as well get an affiliate link for them, since I like the program.) It took me about 20 minutes to set up that whole site. The only mods I made to the standard template (as of July 2007 anyway) were a few color changes, spent ten minutes building a logo, and put the Adsense on top.

The arcade site builder did a great job of building in good search engine optimization. For example, here is the text from one of my Google listings:

REVENGE Arcade - Galaxians
This is a classic game re-done for online enjoyment. You are in a space ship, trying to avoid
being blown out to smithereens while shooting down enemy alien …
www.revengearcade.com/games/8/galaxians.html - 33k - Cached - Similar pages

Notice the nice description, and that was built in, I didn’t have to do anything. Also, it uses search-engine friendly url’s, with the name of the game in the url.

The script is database driven using MySQL, and all the users, links, desriptions and statistics are stored in a database. To set it up, it is very much like a WordPress install. Copy a bunch of php files to your server. Create a database. Change a config file to point to your database. Log in to an install.php script, and the site is built. Then if you want, run a download script to install a bunch of games.

This is a list of features that come standard, for a lousy $30:

5 Star Rating System - Membership Area for Users - Ability for Users (and Guests) to comment on games - Built in Link Trading Management - Built in Tell-A-Friend Script - Most Played, Newest Games and Top Players Lists - Fully Functional Admin Backend - Manage Categories (add, edit, delete) - Manage Games (add, edit, delete, active/inactive) - Manage Users (add, edit, delete, ban users) - Manage Links (confirm links, edit links, delete links) - Manage Comments (edit, delete comments) - Category specific meta keywords and descriptions - Game specific meta keywords and descriptions - Support for DCR / DIR games - Easy to use HTML templates for your own unique design. Plus, it comes with over 100 games and a few videos. However, these flash games are available free just for the looking. (Most contain links to their origins.) I also bought a gamepack containing 2,800 games for $25.00.

Now, imagine if I can get a couple thousand pages listed and ranked in Google, how much link power that will be. It reminds me of the old blog-farm days, when it was easy to get thousands of pages listed using automated tools. A good use for this script would be to build a farm of about five of these sites, linked in a circle. Then work on swapping links with the rest of the gaming community, which is a real easy thing to do, since they almost all have automated linking programs, like phpArcadeScript has. With this kind of link power, you can use these sites to build links to your other money sites and get hundreds of backlinks for good Google love.

One thing I haven’t explored much yet is how to monetize a game site. Looking at some of the leaders in the field, it looks like they’re doing banner ads for mostly electronics, like cell phones, iPods, and video games. Plus, they are obviously selling links on high page-rank pages. I won’t know for a while how well this works. You can always sell links once you are getting several thousand hits per month.

Back to the script. There are a bunch of SEO features built into phpArcadeScript. For example, the links to the games rotate constantly. So there is ever-changing content on the pages, including graphics. Also, with the user interaction, you are getting changing “top players” and “latest additions” links. So the links to other site pages are continually being rotated. There is also an “add this game to your website, blog, myspace, etc.” script built in, to encourage others to put the game on their site, linking back to you.

This looks like a very viral way to create a website, and I’m looking forward to seeing results, hopefully soon!

As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions. I’m here to help.

Meanwhile, go have some fun!

Happy playing,

PG Insider has a few openings. If you need to know more about PGI, read my review of PG Insider here. One of the best strengths of PGI is the owners committment to seeing subscribers succeed. Several months ago they started the “$100 per day” program, which was a complete blueprint for all the steps needed to earn $100 per day in Adsense earnings.

Many people started the program, and posted their results. It was interesting to read these. A large number of the useres failed in their attempts, and posted their frustrations on the forum. But many succeeded, an it was fun to watch as they outlined what they were doing, and how it was working. Face it, earning $100 per day in Adsense earnings is a real challenge, and much more difficult today than it was a year ago, or even 6 months ago. You really need to diversify your income sources! PGI offers instruction on finding other sources of income, also.

PGInsider is still relatively cheap, I believe it’s still $127 to join, and $47 per month after that. You can join for a month, and pull all the educational materials. Watch all the videos, and read the forum. Then if you don’t think it is worthy to continue the monthly fee, just cancel.

Good luck with it! As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me!

Happy building,

Hello -

Well, I need to rescind that offer I made in a previous post to build a SOE smArticle site for any of my readers. I’m so impressed with the output of this tool that I wanted to share it that bad. But alas, giving away a site is against the TOS of the product. I’ve been in touch with the producer today, and made my humble apologies. Yeouch, I haven’t done anything that stupid in … well .. hours!

So I think the closest you’ll get from me for now is watching the SEO smArticle video I made, that shows me building a site. (I think this is only viewable using IE.)

But, since I hate giving something, then having to take it away, I’ll make another offer. If you decide to go with SEO smArticle Composer, and buy it through me here, I’ll give you five articles for your first site. I will probably run this offer only for a week or so, depending on response, because the cost of the articles is more than my proceeds from making an affiliate sale. Send me an e-mail telling me you got smArticle, with your name, and I’ll send you a list of a dozen different topics you can pick from. These are unique articles, good quality, written with keyword optimization in mind. In other words, these are just like the ones I’m using right now on my sites. They are not “spun” from some tool that makes them read like gibberish, they are hand written, and you will be the only one that has them!

Sorry for any confusion!

Hi friends -

Welcome to SEO smArticle Composer!

Many of you know that I split my site-building time between blogs and article sites. Currently, I’m using two tools for building article sites.

I use Website Article Wizard for sites where I’m using other peoples articles.

For building sites with my own, or re-written articles, I’m using SEO smArticle Composer. It’s a program formerly known as Keyword Avalanche Site builder. It was written by Gary, a guy that is known for his Niche Creator templates, and out of the box thinking! He wrote the program, and is selling through a partnership with Scott & Jim from Keyword Avalanche.

Here is a link to the SEO smArticle sales page.

This product is going on sale July 12. If you sign in there now, you can get in on a pre-launch 25% discount, and buy the product when it is available for $97. (It goes up later in the day to $127.

I also have a free ebook for you, on a great article-site building strategy, written by Tim Gorman. Feel free to download it from here! Even if you have no interest in SEO smArticle Composer, this is a great read!

I set up a landscape site, and made a short video, showing the site and some of the setup tasks. You can get the SEO smArticle video here. (It’s about 30MB.)

Hello friends -

Many ask me what tools I use to write article sites. Well, there are basically four I have used lately. They are XSitePro, the Keyword Avalanche Site Builder, Adsense Firesale, and Website Article Wizard. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, and I use them for different purposes.

I have already written about XSitePro. Today you get get my ramblings on Website Article Wizard. Why that one? Well, the price is going up Friday! No this isn’t one of those “hurry up and buy it before the price goes up” it is more a major upgrade is on the way, and it’s going to cost $20 more. If you decide you want ot try it, you may as well save the $20 and buy it now!

So here you have it, enjoy! And please feel free to email me your comments!

Website Article Wizard Review

Priced at $197. Software by David Watson, 30 day money-back guarantee.

Website Article Wizard is a PC-based site builder that builds pages for an article site, with the generated files then ftp’ed to your web server. It also contains a database of over 20,000 articles to choose from. It is a complete turnkey site builder, with nothing else required other than hosting.

There is a complete video accessible from the Website Article Wizard site, and a well-written 34 page manual. I had my first test site built within, literally, a half hour of receiving the software! WAW uses a very simple, intuitive pull-down and tab driven menu system.

In a nutshell, here is the site-building process:

- Start a new project

- Enter general settings, including domain, template, title, number and size of snippets and links.

- Select articles. There is a search feature that will pull from the included article library based on keyword searches and/or categories. You can also add your own articles in this section.

- Enter Adsense code, channel, and alternate url.

- Enter ftp information.

When done, click “generate pages” to do the build. Then “upload pages” to have them ftp’ed to your server. This is a very simple process that takes about fifteen minutes total, depending on how much time you spend selecting articles.

I have made a sample Website Article Wizard site, on the topic of internet marketing. I purposely made this small, about 20 articles, even though WAW returned over 200 related articles in a search of its article database. This is made using one of the four included templates.

Once you look at the pages, it becomes apparent how this program can separate itself from the others. Article snippets are sprinkled throughout your pages, in little blocks of text. To the reader, these look like normal. However, if you do a “view source” on the page, to view this like a search engine would, you see something else. The snippets are mixed in with the article text. The result is a completely customized article. The more snippets you include, the more the “standard” article is broken up. You can control the number and length of the snippets.

There are four sets of templates included with Website Article Wizard. All four are fairly simple, clean-looking templates, using css. They are generic enough to use with just about any kind of site. By changing out the header picture, you can make the site more personalized to the topic if you want. I always recommend people customize templates that come packaged with software, but I didn’t see any footprints on these that need to be removed. And they are simple enough so they look like millions of other sites. There are 23 tokens available that correspond to the different setup items you set.

In addition to generating article pages, WAW allows you to select one article to make into the index page. It also generates sitemap.html and sitemap.xml pages. Here is the html sitemap and here is the rss feed from my test site.

There is quite a bit of flexibility allowed in article selection. You can search through the article database, and add any or all of the articles found in your search. You can re-do a search, and add more of those articles. Plus, you can enter the text of articles you have, by copying and pasting. There is a powerful article import feature that allows you to import text files from a directory, from an ArticleMiner search, or from a MySQL dump. Since the formats of these can be tricky, there is a feature that attempts to “clean” these imported articles.

What is the best way to use this software? Try this strategy:

- Pick your niche. Let’s say internet marketing, just to stay consistent with our test!

- Find an affiliate product to add a sales box for on the site. Clickbank is usually a good place to look for these.

- Pick your template, select your articles, and build your site.

- Put links to this site on other sites you may have, blog farms, purchased links, or any other place you have to show to an SE to help bring spidering.

- Write a few articles on this topic, being careful to choose keywords for the articles that have fairly low competition. Or hire someone else to, or re-write a plr article you own. However you do it, come up with at least a few unique articles. Make sure you include links in these articles back to your new site.

- Submit these to article directories. Done right, this will expand the amount of incoming links your site gets, therefore increasing its value to the search engines. This is a tactic that can separate your sites from many of the others.

- As is said so often in this business, “rinse and repeat.”

The nice thing about this software is you can make sites very quick, yet you have the flexibility to do it how you want. You can generate sites by the hundreds based on public articles, or you can use this as a powerful builder to showcase your own articles. It is easy to add articles to an existing WAW site. Just open the project, go to the article section, add the article, generate, and ftp.

Now, about the upgrade coming out in the next several days. I have not beta tested the new version, so I’m only re-printing what is promised:

Ability to allocate keywords to pages.
Insert user-defined paragraphs into article pages.
Insert keywords and secondary keywords into user-defined paragraphs.
Ability to upload additional pages over user-definable periods - “drip-feed”.
Add RSS feeds to pages.
Add Affiliate links via tokens.
Addition tokens for user-defined data.
RSS2BLOG export routine.
Built-in HTML editing.
Additional import routine.
Facility to created additional keyword based pages, that are not included in snippets.

There are several other features, but that gives you a quick idea.

Overall, I strongly recommend Website Article Wizard as a powerful, fast generator for building article sites.

Please e-mail me with any comments or suggestions you have regarding this review, or Website Article Wizard.
